A great little find in the countryside!

@smokedandchard is a delightful rural lunch and tea establishment in the countryside close to Medmerry Harbour, on the Chichester Plain in the vintage / shabby-chic style. The emphasis is on recycled, re-used and fresh, healthy, homemade food.

Situated by Earnley Grange on Almodington Lane, it is closer to Earnley than Birdham. It is located in a sun-drenched “shed” which has been artfully done up and decorated by two enterprising young businessmen.

They have focussed on collecting artifacts from upcycling, recycling and re-using all sorts of things from beautiful tables and chairs to chandeliers, vintage farm and other tools and crockery. The atmosphere is welcoming and friendly.

They are open 10-4.30pm most days for morning coffee, light lunches and tea, including cream teas! The homemade and sometimes homegrown food is delicious – not too unhealthy i.e. sweet and goes down a treat! The is a daily specials board which changes all the time.

The spacious garden has plenty of seats and benches and is child and dog friendly too. The resident dog is Milo – who is still a puppy but will be a handsome chap when fully grown.

They can cater for larger groups too – so might be an idea for a #HenParty for a private cream tea and they are also able to cater for a “takeaway” meal.

It is really close to Medmerry harbour – so why not get up an appetite with a walk beforehand? As it is only a couple of miles away from Chichester Self Catering you could make a healthy day of it! It does have onsite car parking and the wheelchair access is fine too.

I highly recommend this tucked away cafe / restaurant for something different. Find them on Facebook – https://www.facebook.com/smokedandchard/

01243 941105 for bookings. Open 9-5pm most days. Less in the winter – I think weekends only.
