Brighton and Hove is a great place to visit for the day. The City is large, bustling and built on steep hills going right down to the sea! One area which is less well known – away from the Laines and City centre is to the West of the City towards Hove.
Here the older buildings have gorgeous regency styles – with high windows, beautiful architecture and gracious gardens or balconies. There is a wide esplanade between the Kings Road – the main shore East to West route into Brighton and the English Channel.
There is a wide area of grass with a few picturesque beach huts in places – much loved in the Summer for picnics – a bit further towards the derelict West Pier is the stunning Bandstand. A truly magical, restored Victorian building – day or night.
Also to see is a fabulous statue of an archangel – which at sunset is truly stunning!
Then there is the new British Airways i360 tower almost opposite the Hilton Metropole. The tallest moving observation tower in the world and the tallest observation tower outside London. (http://britishairwaysi360.com/) The tower is 162 metres tall and the passenger viewing pod will climb to a height of 450 feet (or 138 metres). It is just £15 for adults and cheaper if you pre-book.
Enjoy the street architecture of the road lights and esplanade barrier which is not interrupted by the cycleway – but when walking – take care – as they are speedy cyclists round here!
I hope you also have a walk up into the roads around Hove as the buildings are spectacular and the roads are generously proportioned. Have fun and enjoy the relative tranquility of Hove.
Brighton is just an our or less from Chichester – and its a direct train route too – so it is an easy away-day to organise for something different to do! Such a varied City to visit – people, places to see and shops – all on hills with the sea closeby!
