Sussex has a World-wide reputation with keen birdwatchers as being one of the best places in the UK to see such a variety of birds of all sorts.
We have the right areas of countryside and seascape for sea birds & waders, plus unique wetlands, woodland and scrubland species, and open grassland and chalk Downland. Its all within just a few square miles too!It is a mecca for migrating birds especially by Selsey Bill and the estuaries and fields are essential winter feeding grounds for many species eg Brent and Canada geese. This has been enhanced by the newly created Medmerry Harbour RSPB Reserve (2015) which is between Chichester and Pagham Harbours.
West Sussex is particularly blessed with a number of bird reserves and SSSI’s, often in close proximity to people and is a very rich breeding and migration stop-over point for continental / arctic birds.
Chichester Harbour, Medmerry Harbour and Pagham Harbour Reserve are just three of these. There are guided tours, even local boat rides to see them all year round. Plus the added benefit of the City nearby for the excellent theatre and other facilities for guests at the end of the day. You can even see the Chichester peregrines who nest each year on the Cathedral and help to curb the pigeon population – see the chicks as they grow on Pere-Cam!
Also, just in case this isn’t enough.. in the gardens of Chichester Self Catering we have an abundance of birds to observe – incl resident Herring Gulls, Sparrowhawks, Carrion Crows, magpies and jays, plus wrens and our beautiful charms of goldfinches! You just have to look outside the window! We are also a quarter mile from a large stand of ancient woodland too – dating back to Medieval times!
We have local 4* self catering accommodation juxtapose to these fabulous birding areas, call us to make your booking now! 07769 746113 www.chichesterselfcatering.co.uk
“Just imagine returning after a cold day focussing the lenses to come home to a relax in the hot tub with your favourite tipple and then a hearty supper! Perfect to recount your sightings from the day.”
