On the long road South from Chichester to West Wittering (A286) is The Lamb. This cottagey pub has a lovely olde-worlde theme with fresh hop flowers and unusual well-thought-out decor.
In recent years it has been turned around with new management and staff and now is once again successful and popular. The garden has a log climbing frame and old boat for children to play in and has a chicken coop and there are guinea pigs too! Plus of course plenty of seating..
The wine list is comprehensive but quite pricey but does include organic options too. The beer are from a Dorset brewery and include Badgers and Tanglefoot.
The freshley cooked food has steaks and fish and chips and the regular pub favourites as well as some more unusual starters eg Scottish mussels or a heritage beetroot salad with goats cheese. There is also a specific gluten free menu.
I would recommend that you pre-book and if you are trying to get there on time in the Summer – especially over a hot weekend – then allow for a LOT of traffic (in both directions!) as the beach, being a few miles away attracts massive queues. 90 minutes journey time from the A27 to the beach is not unusual from 10am in the morning, and it starts in the other direction (going North) from midday!!
